4690 World announces NavigACE, a GUI for the IBM ACE POS Back-Office. NavigACE will be demonstrated at FMI Marketechnics in Dallas May 6-8
Objective of NavigACE:
NavigACE provides 4690 Users a GUI interface on the Store Controller to more easily manage their stores and make the system appear to be “brand new”. Historically, even though the IBM 4690 platform has demonstrated outstanding reliability and up-time, it has been difficult to sell against “pretty” windows-like POS applications.
NavigACE makes the IBM ACE POS application look like it is running Windows, even in the office. Navigation through the manager's functions is greatly enhanced.
No more green screens.
The NavigACE GUI interface application is accessible from any device with a browser. Java is utilized on the 4690 Controller to deliver this GUI interface.
NavigACE on the 4690 Controller runs a Web Server, an application which “hosts” the GUI interface. The Jetty web server is utilized as the web server. It’s small, lightweight, fast, scalable and free.
Servlets, JSP, HTML, CSS and the like are utilized to provide a stylish, appealing user interface.
This approach by 4690World in developing NavigACE allows us to provide a configured interface for the 4690 Controller, a Windows PC on the network, or even handheld devices/phones used via Wi-Fi. For example if you use the browser on a PDA phone and go to www.ibm.com, you see a different interface for that device than you do your desktop web browser. This means that the retailer can access Store Reports from their Mobile Phone Devices that support a browser.
Planned availability is Summer 2009.
